The phrase “birds of the same feather flock together” is quite overrated. At least, that’s what Rudy the duck and Barclay the Golden retriever prove in this story. They have feathers and fur, yet they are the best of friends!
Duck and dog friendship
This beautiful friendship began when Barclay, a Golden retriever, discovered how tasty duck chow is. Barclay often visits the duck coop, hoping to get the opportunity to snack on some duck food. But the alpha duck named Rudy would not have any of it, and he would chase Barclay out.
But Barclay is a stubborn dog, so he still visits the duck coop despite Rudy’s anger. Soon enough, the two learned to tolerate each other’s presence. Over time, Rudy and Barclay have become best friends.
Now that these two animals are best friends, Rudy has been allowed inside the house. Barclay and Rudy hate being separated from each other. When one is away, the other would whine and cry. But when they’re together, they would be chasing or jumping on one another. Their owners believe that they have a love-hate kind of friendship.
Who’s the boss?
Since Rudy is the alpha duck in the coop, he feels very entitled and dominant, even when it comes to his friendship with Barclay. That means Rudy gets to have the last say. Often, when Rudy sees Barclay playing with the other ducks, Rudy gets jealous and would nip the dog.
Barclay has his peculiarities as well. This dog loves to sniff duck butt. Fortunately, Rudy loves to jump onto Barclay whenever he feels bossy. The dog doesn’t mind because he has easy access to Rudy’s butt, and he’d sniff to his heart’s content.
It’s clear that Rudy and Barclay need one another. Their friendship might have had a rough start, but it’s developing even more beautifully over time.
