Dogs are known for their protective instincts. This is why you will always hear stories of brave pooches defending their humans from burglars or alerting them of fires. They will never hesitate to put their life on the line just to keep their owners safe.
Eva, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois, has proven that dogs are humans’ reliable protectors. This is after she defended her owner from a mountain lion attack in Northern California.
The fierce mountain lion attack
A woman named Erin Wilson was walking Eva near the Trinity River when a mountain lion appeared. The said wild animal lunged at Wilson, ripping her jacket and leaving a scratch on her shoulder. The mountain lion even growled at her.
Wilson called Eva, who immediately started running towards her. Then, the 55-pound pooch hit the big cat really hard.
For a couple of seconds, the two animals fought. At one point, the big cat latched onto the dog’s skull.
Wilson knew she had to do something. She tried to break the fight by punching the aggressive mountain lion. She used sticks and rocks to hit the cat.
Wilson also attempted to choke the mountain lion and poke its eyes. However, the big cat clearly didn’t want to let go of the dog.
Wilson then ran back to her car to get a tire iron. She also sought the help of drivers passing by. She was able to enlist the help of a motorist named Sharon Houston. Thankfully, Houston had a pepper spray, which she used to help drive the big cat away.
Eva’s doing okay
Eva’s face was punctured, and there was a lot blood oozing out of her mouth. Wilson shared that her dog even had a convulsion on their way to the hospital.
A GoFundMe account was created for Eva’s hospital expenses. It raised $21,000, which was way more than the target amount of $7,500.
Thankfully, Eva was able to survive. On an Instagram post, Wilson said that her beloved pooch had already switched to oral medications.
