Christy Gardner served with the U.S. Army overseas. In a tragic incident that occurred while she was doing her duty, she lost both legs. She had to return home after that and that was when she endured a severe mental struggle that prompted her to repeatedly attempt suicide.
A Golden Retriever named Moxie was sent to her in order to assist her in combating the severe emotional suffering that she was experiencing. The dog was to help Christy with her everyday duties. Moxie was not only present to assist Christy with her tasks, but also to keep her company.
Christy has always believed she owed her life to Moxie for being there for her, improving her life, and keeping her alive. She currently plays on the US Women’s Sled Hockey Team and attributes her improved outlook on life to Moxie.
Christy soon made it her mission to show how much she loves Moxie because she is extremely grateful to the dog for everything that it has done for her. She discovered the ideal way to achieve her objective, which she thinks would eventually impact the lives of millions.
The woman decided to acquire, raise, and train Tiny Tim, a yellow Labrador with a birth deformity in his right front leg and blue eyes after she saw Tiny Tim’s potential. She wished to show the pupils at Leeds Elementary that having a disability is never a reason to take one’s own life. Christy also shared that Tiny Tim was the ideal candidate for her purpose.
Before Christy can formally train Tiny Tim as a therapy dog, however, the puppy’s deformed leg had to be amputated. Christy became more determined as a result, and she took on two jobs to save money needed for the dog’s surgery.
A dog food company called VitriScience heard about Christy’s cause, and wanted to help out so they sent Christy $10,000 for Tiny Tim’s surgery.
Tiny Tim still has a lot of work and training to complete before he is fully prepared to inspire pupils at Leeds Elementary, but the school’s staff is optimistic that he will succeed in his objective to inspire others, particularly the youngsters.
Tiny Tim was also given a more appropriate name now as he is now known as Lucky Tim.
