Otto, a Poodle, was dumped in a vacant lot by her previous owner. She was filthy, matted, and rancid – clear signs that she was neglected for a long time. She also had badly injured legs, which were probably the reason why she lost her home.
For no less than 2 weeks, the poor dog lived in the vacant lot because she had nowhere to go. She survived by eating food scraps thrown away by passers-by, but there were days when she had nothing to eat but grass. She starved and she suffered for so long.
Eventually, Danu Colombo, an independent rescuer, learned about Otto. He knew she lived in a deserted land but he had no clue about her actual state. So when he finally saw her, he felt horrified.
The poor dog stood and walked on her front legs alone. Her trauma was so serious and distressing that she had to figure out a way not to feel so much pain. It was amazing, in a way, that she taught herself to walk on two legs but it was for the saddest reason.
Danu quickly but gently scooped up Otto and loaded her into his car. He rushed her to the vet for urgent care and later on bathed her and trimmed her hair. He was delighted to see such a beautiful dog underneath her dirty and matted fur but he was more captivated when he realized she’s such a sweet and loving pup.
Otto, despite what she had to go through, remained warm and affectionate to people. She didn’t hold grudges and continued to believe there was good in everyone. She trusted people in the past and she still trusted them even after all her pain.
The dog received proper treatment for six straight weeks. She had daily therapeutic massages and attended physiotherapy every couple of days. She worked so hard and all her efforts paid off when she recovered and was able to use her four legs again.
Otto is now energetic, festive, and free from all pain. She is very appreciative of all the help she received and she’s overjoyed that she found a family with whom she can be for the rest of her years.
