Deciding to adopt a dog could sometimes come like a fate. The Mikolai family felt this when their 15 years old daughter, Avery, decided to foster a dog who happened to have pulmonary stenosis, the same heart condition that the teenage girl has.
Pulmonary stenosis is a disease characterized by narrowing of the pulmonary artery, leading to restricted blood flow in the body. Avery had her emergency heart surgery after she was born. Fifteen years later, she grew up to be a healthy teenager.
Just recently, she and her mom, Nicki, decided to add a member to their family. They fostered a dog from a non-profit organization that rehome and rescue dogs called No Dogs Left Behind. They choose a Husky and Pitbull mix to be their first foster dog and named it Annie.
The Mikolai family made sure to give Annie her needs. They scheduled her for a visit to a veterinarian. They then discover the dog’s health condition. The family was told that Annie needs to undergo surgery.
Nicki still amazed by the coincidences thought that the dog is meant for them. So, she immediately prepared the papers needed for adoption.
At the moment, Annie and Avery are the best of friends. Avery even bought a lightning bolt collar for Annie to match her lightning bolt earrings. It symbolizes the pacemaker implanted to address their heart’s condition.
In a short period, the two are able to build a deeper level of relationship. Avery became more cheerful when Annie came into their life. They are inseparable to the point that the dog now sleeps in the same room as Avery.
Nicki is happy to see the two of them supporting each other. Their family promised to never let the dog feel abandoned and unloved.
