It was one December day when a woman named Kelly Shade lost her Pittie named Gracie. Noise from construction done in her house accompanied by the front door left wide open caused the alarmed Gracie to run out without anyone noticing. What started as one night without Gracie quickly turned into days and months. Worried for her pup, Kelly Shade posted fliers and offered a reward in exchange for Gracie’s safe return.
Phone calls came and went, but none of them was news about the pup. Kelly hoped every day that she would find her dear pup through the microchip embedded in her Pittie. She hoped that maybe someone would spot Gracie, bring the pup to the veterinary clinic, and scan the chip that links Gracie back to her.
Nearly a year had passed since Kelly lost Gracie before her hope turned into a reality. A rescuer of stray dogs named Katie Campbell got hold of a call about a white and black pittie searching for food. Kind-hearted Polly Ellison had been feeding the pittie to win her trust, but the pup never opened up to her.
But Katie was determined to help the pup, so she set up a trap of sausages and hot pot roast. With a meal so tempting, it only took 10 minutes to have the dog within the trap. After driving the pittie home and setting out some water and food, what was once a highly untrusting dog opened her heart to the kind stranger. Katie then took the opportunity to scan the pup for a microchip, and she did find it.
One call was all it took to find who the pittie was and where she belonged. She was Kelly Shade’s pittie named Gracie. In another phone call, Katie reassured a crying Kelly that Gracie was safe and healthy.
Gracie had been in the streets for almost a year, living in exhaustion and uncertainty, but once the car door opened to her mom standing on the sidewalk, none of it mattered. One sniff and sheer excitement drove her to hug and lick her mom with excitement. You can watch their lovely reunion below. We hope they never lose each other ever again!
