It’s not unheard of for individuals to take care of multiple dogs. However, not everyone who practices this has unlimited resources to spend on them. That’s why from time to time, people who care for a large number of dogs need assistance from professionals like veterinarians and animal rescuers.
A Korean woman was recently discovered to be housing over 17 dogs in her home. She keeps them in her backyard. Some of them are inside kennels, but a lot of them are allowed to roam free.
As anyone could imagine, having that many dogs come with a lot of difficulties. Aside from the cost of taking care of them, the neighbors have several complaints. The dogs can sometimes get into neighboring gardens and wreck havoc on the crops.
According to the woman, she didn’t always have that many dogs. It all started with just one dog, and the number just grew. Even if she prevented the male dogs from going out, female dogs would come to her yard when they were in heat.
A concerned veterinarian came to the woman’s aid to help her with population control. The vet found it alarming that the number of dogs in her home had skyrocketed in a span of one year. Thus a plan for neutering was put into action.
The veterinarian, together with a team of rescuers from the Korean Animal Welfare Association, collected all the dogs in the home. Some of them were harder to capture since they were free to roam around. Fortunately, with enough patience, the rescuers managed to put all 17 dogs in a kennel.
All of the woman’s dogs were spayed and neutered, which would prevent them from further reproduction. Additionally, the woman was given additional equipment and housing for her dogs. Her dogs now had a more comfortable area to stay in. Most importantly, she no longer had to worry about their population increasing.
