It breaks our hearts when we hear about people mistreating animals. Fortunately, with the growing awareness for animal rights, more and more cases of abused animals are being taken seriously, and the animals involved are being rescued.
In Michigan, a woman is facing various charges for running a puppy mill in her backyard. The local police officers stumbled upon this shocking puppy mill when they responded to a report about a neglected horse. While the officers were investigating the area, they stumbled upon the horrifying backyard.
Rebecca Sue Johnson, the culprit, had stacked cages after cages around her yard where she kept the pups. The pups were all cramped and neglected. They were definitely deprived of water and food and were sitting on their feces in their cramped cages. And as if letting them live in a pitiful environment was not enough, Rebecca forced the pups to breed.
Delta County Officers immediately took action and rescued about 20 horses, 69 puppies, and 65 grown-up pups from the mill. Almost every grown-up female pup was nursing newborn pups, pregnant, or taking care of weaned pups. All of them were brought to an animal shelter.
Thanks to the officers who found them, the pups are now getting the care and love they deserve. And in just two months, the pregnant pups bore 100 more puppies, making the pups in the animal shelter reach over 200 in number. That means that there are more than 200 pups eagerly waiting to be adopted.
As for Rebecca, she is rightfully being charged for operating an illegal pound and for animal cruelty. Police officers are working tirelessly to trace anyone who purchased any pups from Rebecca so that they can add more charges to her case. We hope that there will be justice and that no pup will ever suffer again.
