Being a farmer means you get to help the community by supplying its food. But this can also be quite challenging, as you will need to deal with pests. While the common pests include insects, animals like monkeys also cause damage to farms.
One farmer in India chose to go for something outside the box when it comes to scaring animals away from his land. And he enlisted the help of his trusty dog to make it happen. His dog’s role: become a tiger.
Monkeys invade the farm
Srikanth Gowda had been having problems with monkeys on his farm. These mischievous mammals have been causing damage to his coffee crop, so he needed to do something to keep them at bay.
At first, he placed soft toy tigers in his fields to scare away the monkeys. Initially, it did the trick. Srikanth told a news outlet that he used to bring soft toys and place them in the fields. In the long run, however, the toys’ color faded, and monkeys would return to the crop.
Because his first plan had been effective, Srikanth decided to take the effort to the next level. This time, he sought the assistance of Bulbul, his Labrador. Bulbul had been turned into a tiger by Srikanth by slapping some hair dye onto the dog’s fur.
Miraculously, it became successful, though the effect could be attributed to the fact that there was a massive Labrador with stripes that approached a bunch of monkeys.
A successful creative idea
Srikanth’s daughter claimed that other villagers were copying her dad’s idea. While the concept may be creative and ingenious, many people still advised against applying hair dye to animal fur.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) said that dyeing animals could frighten and confuse pets. It is also important to remember that some dyes, glues, and inks were toxic to animals. Furthermore, pet owners should be wary of similar items marketed as pet-friendly.
