One early morning in January 2022, Amy Haden, a mother and pet owner, was in the middle of getting dressed. Suddenly, her daughter approached her and excitedly told her that a dog was on their back porch.
Amy thought her daughter was talking about their two dogs and said she had let them out in the backyard earlier. However, the girl reiterated that it was a different dog, so Amy went to the backyard to investigate.
True enough, it was a different dog, and it sat comfortably on one of the cushioned seats on the patio. Amused, Amy and her daughter watched the canine from afar and took a video. They were both amused at how relaxed and comfortable he was, and they let him stay, thinking he would go away later on.
Amy left for work, ready to start the day. When she returned in the evening, the dog was still there. The intriguing canine was still on the porch when she woke up the next day. It was clear by then that he had entirely made himself at home.
Amy decided to reach out to her community through texting and social media, hoping she would be able to locate the dog’s owner. However, nobody claimed to be its owner, though they have also recently seen him wandering around their area.
Amy’s next step was to take the dog to the veterinarian for assessment and check if he had a microchip. They found out that he is a German Shepherd mix and is around two years old. Sadly, he didn’t have a microchip that would help them track his owners.
Amy then posted another video update of her now accidental foster dog on TikTok. She also let the online community pick a name for him, and they settled on ‘Walker.’
Walker stayed with the Haden family for about a month. From his TikTok videos, it was clear that the adorable canine liked Amy and enjoyed his new life at home. He happily ate his food. He loved playing and had a zest for life.
However, things didn’t work out with Walker and the Haden Family. The canine didn’t get along with their two other dogs, and he also stole different things from his neighbors. Although Walker is lovely and adorable, Amy thinks Walker needs rehoming soon.
Amy shared that many people didn’t understand her position. Perhaps several people asked her to adopt the dog instead. After all, Walker chose to be with the family.
But Amy knew it wasn’t that easy. First, the dogs who didn’t like him. Second, she wasn’t mentally and financially ready to take in another pet. She did the right thing by finding a more permanent solution by finding him an adopter instead of abandoning him.
Fortunately, Amy was able to find a new home and owner for Walker. An older lady reached out to the Haden family and expressed her intention to adopt Walker. She wished for a pet dog like Walker, and she thought that he was the answer to her prayers. We’re so glad that things worked out well for Amy, her family, and Walker!
