There are many benefits of raising a child and a dog together. It’s a perfect opportunity to teach empathy and compassion to a kid.
A great example of this dynamic is highlighted in a story involving a kid named Ted.
A Labrador named Elvis was there when Ted was born. Elvis acted as the baby’s protector. He was curious about the little creature that suddenly appeared in his life.
When Ted became a toddler, his parents noticed him mimicking some of Elvis’s behavior. The child would often put toys in his mouth and follow the dog wherever he went. After observing such interactions, the parents realized that those two would have a great friendship.
Every time the parents were training Elvis, Ted would be there watching. When the dog was asked to sit or stay, the toddler would do the same. The parents couldn’t help but laugh whenever that happened.
When Ted became more talkative, he would often talk to Elvis when they were alone. The kid seems to enjoy conversing with his dog. The mother says she can’t understand a word her child is saying to the dog, but she assumes Elvis and Ted understand each other.
Ted learned how to be generous because of Elvis. The child has no problem sharing his food and giving the dog some snacks. There was even a time when Ted brought out strawberries from the fridge and offered them to Elvis.
Ted knows how to treat Elvis with great care. The kid wipes the dog’s foot after walking outside, and Ted also knows how to feed Elvis. Furthermore, Ted would always hug the dog before going to sleep.
Ted’s interactions with Elvis are a testament to how well his parents have raised him. The parents also did a good job of disciplining the dog. Overall, the dog and the child’s friendship is a great example of what really can happen when kids and dogs are raised together.
