It’s not only us humans who like collecting things. Animals like cats, birds, squirrels are also known to gather objects they fancy. Of course, some dogs also do the same, just like this lovely Golden Retriever named Bruce.
It’s not surprising that Bruce’s object of choice is wooden sticks. After all, this is one of the things the come to mind when we think of dogs. And he’s living up to his breed by retrieving them, which makes it more amusing. But, perhaps, what made his story more interesting was how it all started.
Bruce’s penchant for wooden sticks began one afternoon when he and his owner played in a field near their home. He accidentally left his treasured tree branch behind, and then it started to snow.
The following day, Bruce panicked because snow covered the entire field in no time. It took them days of relentless searching, and in between, Bruce fetched for backup sticks that would substitute the lost one.
When the sun came out and the icy snow finally melted, Bruce triumphantly found the treasure he’s been looking for, good for him! But it seemed that Bruce’s habit of collecting sticks lingered. Whether this stemmed out of his fear when he initially lost his first one, nobody knows.
One thing was for sure: What began as a single stick grew to over 50. And this dog also likes a lot of variety. From tiny slabs of driftwood to large and longer tree branches, you could see the diversity in his growing collection, which he proudly displayed on his deck.
Sadly, this collection isn’t for play anymore. An accident happened in 2018 while Bruce played with his sticks. One of them accidentally perforated his esophagus while playing fetch.
Because of this, poor Bruce stayed in the hospital for some time. His scared owner decided after that to let him switch to rubber toys instead. He also trained him nicely not to take his collection inside the house, but sometimes, passion and mischief get the better of him, and he sometimes sneaks in some when Leo is not around.
Despite this, Leo took pride in his dog’s collection and didn’t let his passion dwindle. He saw how he took pride in his collection every time he admires and checks on them every time they go inside and out of the house.
It didn’t take long before Bruce became famous for his passion and life story. Was Leo surprised that Bruce became an internet sensation? Not. He said that he is truly a unique dog, who completed his life, and life is hard to imagine without him. For every dog owner, that is all that matters.
