Billy the Lurcher wanted to show his love to his fur dad, Russell Jones, who suffered from an accident by pretending to limp even though he did not injure himself. Jones took Billy for a walk despite his condition.
This shows that Jones is such a fantastic fur dad. His love for Billy is unconditional. When Billy started limping while walking, Jones immediately went to the veterinarian’s office.
Billy underwent a series of tests, such as X-rays, which cost his fur dad approximately a little over $400. However, all the tests came out negative, which was mysterious to the vet and the owner.
The mystery was solved when Jones’ partner, Michelle Colgate, noticed that Billy never limped while playing in their backyard. He ran, jumped, and even swam without any problems.
Hence, his fur dad wanted to confirm it by walking Billy while he was on his dad’s mobility scooter. The dog did not limp or jump out of pain the entire time. He just walked like usual, which confirmed that it was not a real limp.
Billy then went viral because of what happened. People were moved. It was love and empathy that made him limp along with his owner. He was intelligent enough to copy his fur dad since imitation is considered high-level learning, especially among dogs.
Claudia Fugazza, Ph., has created a training method called “Do as I Do” based upon the previously mentioned social learning.
In the footage, Billy copied his owner by placing his leg up, which seemed limp when he walked.
Jones and partner Colgate are lucky to have a loving and caring dog like Billy, who also has a high-level cognition. He is not only innovative, but he also makes his owners’ lives happier every single day.
