Lily is a five-year-old Corgi-Beagle mix assigned to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) in Florida to assist victims of sensitive or violent crimes.
Lily did not have a great start in life. It was a good thing that she was saved from the kill shelter that she was in.
She was later trained at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office as a therapy dog via Paws and Stripes College. The Paws and Stripes College is an eight-week program in which inmates trained rescue canines such as Lily to become PTSD dogs, child-victim advocate dogs, or therapy dogs.
Lily was selected for advanced therapy dog training after completing basic obedience training. She was given over to MCSO in 2017 after completing the Law Enforcement Investigative Therapy Dog Course and receiving her therapy dog certification that she needed in order to comfort victims of sensitive and violent crimes.
Lily is a very active dog! She has worked tirelessly to assist the victims of the offenses investigated by the DCF Investigative Liaison. Lily focuses largely on providing emotional support not only to the cases handled by the DCF, but also to the families of missing persons and victims of sex crimes, internet crimes involving child exploitation, and child abductions.
Sheriff Billy Woods has nothing but praises for Lily. The dog has been a tremendous asset in handling sensitive investigations. She makes it easier for children to discuss their traumatic experiences.
Additionally, Lily maintains a pleasant and welcoming environment for both the police and visitors. Her presence truly brings happiness and comfort to all.
Lily is currently employed at MCSO, where she continues to offer solace to others who are going through a difficult time in their lives. Indeed, she serves as a beacon for individuals who are confused, terrified, and depressed.
Good done, Lily! Continue doing a great job!
