An avid bodybuilder, Kris Rotonda slept in an animal shelter for ten days to help find homes for abandoned dogs. He had personal reasons for doing this. He honored his dog’s memory, Jordan, by assisting the shelters in finding homes for their animals.
He got Jordan from an animal shelter in Tampa, Florida, when she was only three years old. The dog spent her entire life in a cage. She then became Kris’ loyal companion for 11 years since he adopted her. When she passed away, Kris promised to help pets needing a home so they could spread love and touch the lives of the people who adopted them.
Kris created a non-profit campaign to raise funds for the shelter dogs in the United States. He named it Jordan’s Way. Since this program started, he has already donated an entire year’s worth of food to about 100 shelters in the US. Kris thought of a concept called “Stunts for Shelters” to raise money. This idea involves doing something ordinary to get the media’s attention and encourage donations.
Since Kris is a bodybuilder, he started this campaign by pulling a 250-pound tire for 13 miles. He raised the bar even more in July by pulling this exact tire for 100 miles around Central Park in New York for nine days. To raise funds for 2020, he brought the stunt to a new level by spending ten whole days and nights inside the shelter to raise funds for Jordan’s Way.
Kris wants to raise awareness that these small shelters need more funding. They need $75-100K annually to continue operating and providing food and medical care to rescue animals.
All his efforts became successful, and Kris reached his fundraising goal. In addition to raising funds, his sleepovers have helped get more animals adopted during the past year. He hopes his project will continue encouraging people to give shelter dogs a better chance in life.
